How to build a farm in Minecraft
You usually spend a lot of time in the world of Minecraft “cubes”, the famous sandbox title developed by Mojang and originally conceived by Markus “Notch” Persson. You are having a lot of fun putting your ideas into reality on the map, but there is a building you have never tried to build: the farm, a cheerful place where there are crops, animals and farmers (in this case you and, if it’s a multiplayer game, your friends), then you’d like some advice. That’s the way it is, right? Well then I’d say you’ve come to just the right place!
In fact, in this tutorial I will show you in detail how to build a farm in Minecraft, starting from the basics and arriving at the creation of a complex structure, with all the possibilities of the case. I will not fail to provide you with the information you need to find the elements required to complete the guide.
In short, between crops, animals and more you will surely find bread for your teeth, even if you are an expert player of the Mojang title. Courage: all you have to do is take some free time and have fun with the “cubes” of the Mojang title, following my instructions. Having said that, there is nothing left for me to do, except wish you good reading and wish you a big good luck for your “agricultural” business!

Preliminary information
First we go into the detail of the procedure on how to build a farm in Minecraft, I think it might interest you to know more about this structure.
Well, you must know that in the Mojang title it is possible to grow carrots, wheat, potatoes, pumpkins, watermelons and more. Put simply, you can set up beautiful crops, which you can use to get food without having to visit it around the map.
Taking advantage of this feature, over the years, Minecraft users have invented the most disparate structures, giving life to real farms. In fact, the game also allows you to have animals and, in some cases, to “tame them”. In short, the developers have thought of everything.
So what I’m going to explain to you today is how to make a farm-like building that also has crops and animals. Of course, I’ll show you how to create this structure without using mods, but there will also be a way to analyze some interesting custom content made by the community.
In any case, if you have no idea how to find the materials that I will show you and you want to do everything in Survival mode, I suggest you “lean” on the handy MineSearch tool. Put simply, it is a portal that allows you to search for any element and get the combination needed to create it in Minecraft.
To take advantage of this tool, just connect to its official portal, write the name of the element you need in the search bar (located at the top right) and click on the most relevant result.
The combination of objects needed to create that particular element within the game will appear on the screen. In short, MineSearch could be very useful to you, especially in the creation of structures like the one I am about to illustrate.
How to make a farm in Minecraft
After explaining what can be done in Minecraft, I’d say you’re ready to take action and build a farm. In this chapter, I will show you how to make a basic structure, so that you can build it without too much trouble even in Survival mode. In any case, the first time I advise you to do everything in Creative mode, so as not to make mistakes later and not to waste the material.
The structure will be 15 x 9 blocks in size, so I recommend finding a large enough place to build it.
Found the ideal place, place 7 fir logs, stacked one on top of the other, on the fourth block in front starting from the left.
Repeat, therefore, this procedure in the block further back and in the corners to the right, in order to create 4 columns.
After that, join the columns together, placing fir logs starting from the fourth block from the bottom up.
Now, repeat the same process for the seventh block, the highest one, joining the columns together.
Next, place 4 birch steps, 2 towards the front and 2 towards the back, on the left side of the structure you created earlier.
Continue, therefore, to place the birch steps in this way, until you reach the first “floor” of the structure (leaving the back of the last step “empty”).
Once this is done, place 4 birch boards on the back of the last step.
At this point, starting from the back of the staircase, surround it with stone blocks, in order to make it more pleasing to the eye.
Now “fill” the first floor of the structure with birch boards to create the floor.
Now, it’s time to build the roof. Place, therefore, some birch steps in the upper blocks of the structure, making them “out” of a block on the sides.
After that, create a top step layer, remembering to place a block behind the last step you placed, in order to make the structure more beautiful to see.
Continue like this and make 2 more layers of birch steps.
At this point, move to the other part of the structure and repeat the same procedure; then he uses birch boards to join the two parts of the roof to the sides, leaving the inside “empty”.
Complete the interior with glass blocks.
Now, go to the front of the structure and break the fifth step of the second row, placing 2 spruce logs in its place, one on top of the other. Do the same on the right.
Therefore, place some fir steps in order to create a small “staircase” of 3 lines. To make the structure more beautiful, I also advise you to break the steps on the right and place some spruce, so that they “join”.
Now, do the same thing on the left, always remembering to also place a step behind the one that “sticks out”.
At this point, break the birch steps that are between the two structures you just created and join them with spruce planks.
Repeat, therefore, the same procedure also on the other side of the building.
After that, go back to the front of the structure and place 2 birch slabs in front of each block on the first floor, leaving 3 blocks to the right and 3 to the left “free”.
Next, place some spruce fences, “surrounding” the “ledge” you created earlier.
Then repeat the same procedure on the other side of the structure and also on the right side of the building (leaving, in this case, 2 “free” blocks on the right and 2 on the left).
At this point, go inside the structure and create the front “wall” , placing glass on the right and left, a layer of 2 blocks of birch boards and 2 oak doors in the center.
Now, repeat the same process on the other side of the structure.
After that, do this on the sides as well, but using a single “column” of birch planks and a single oak door.
Once this is done, close the “open” parts at the top of the structure with glass. This way, you will have windows and the building will be much more beautiful to look at.
At this point, it’s time to focus on the interiors. Then enter the house and create internal “columns” with birch boards, placing rows of 4 blocks starting from the “second floor”.
Then place oak doors to the left and right and a ladder to the left.
Now, go up and place some spruce fences on all the blocks, except of course the one where the ladder is.
Perfect, you now have an excellent home, which you can customize as you wish. The rooms are already done, you simply have to indulge yourself with the decor of your country house. In this regard, I suggest you take a look at my guides on how to make a kitchen in Minecraft, how to make a gaming station in Minecraft, how to take a bath in Minecraft and how to take a shower in Minecraft.
For the exteriors, however, I invite you to consult my tutorials on how to make a fountain in Minecraft, how to make a swimming pool in Minecraft and how to make a statue in Minecraft. Furthermore, you may also be interested in knowing how to make a dragon statue in Minecraft. In short, the possibilities are many and by following these tutorials you will surely be able to create excellent aesthetic elements for your home in Minecraft.
Excellent, now the country house is ready, but there is a lack of crops and animals. Well, as far as crops are concerned, you can take advantage of the whole area under the house, just behind the steps. So take a hoe in your hand and use it on all the blocks.
At this point, plant some seeds of wheat (or any other crop) on the hoed earth. Of course, you can also put, for example, wheat on the left, carrots on the right, and so on. You have to do it fast, otherwise the earth will not remain hoed and you will have to “fix” the ground again.
Now, break some blocks in the center, spacing them 2 units apart , and pour in a bucket of water. In this way, you will see that the blocks will start to “get wet”.
If you want, you can also place trunks in the “under the stairs”, in order to put the seeds and everything that has to do with cultivation there. Now, you just have to wait a little while to see the crops grow.
In the meantime, if you don’t want to be “with your hands”, I advise you to devote yourself to animals. In fact, now that you have your country house and cultivation, but there is still no farming.
In this regard, I recommend that you build a fence on the left of your home (starting from the stairs). Of course, you also need to place a gate, so you can let the animals in.
At this point, look for any animals near your area and lure them to the enclosure. For example, if you find pigs, just pick up a carrot and you will see that they will start following you.
Enter, therefore, inside the enclosure, let the animals pass through the gate and “lock” them inside. Perfect, now you have your pets too. In case you don’t know, in Minecraft animals can also be “tamed” and reproduce.
For all the details of the case, I recommend that you consult my tutorial on how to ride a horse in Minecraft. Each animal has its own method, but in general it is very simple (some cannot be ridden, however).
As for mating, if you have brought pigs inside the pen, I suggest you try giving them carrots. There may be a pleasant surprise (i.e. a little piglet ).
Great, now you have all the details of the case available to make a farm as it should: what you have built is the base, now you just need to put your imagination in the field and take advantage of the countless possibilities offered by the title of Mojang. In the meantime, remember the crops: come back and see them, which will surely be growing. Have fun!
Useful mods for the farm in Minecraft
How do you say? Do you have the Java edition for PC of Minecraft, have you followed my guide up to here and would like to expand the possibilities of your farm? No problem, I’ll immediately explain how to do everything quickly via MrCrayfish’s Vehicle Mod, which is even compatible with Minecraft version 1.15.2. To be able to use this mod you must also download the Obfuscate one, which is also compatible with version 1.15.2.
In case you were wondering, this custom content is for adding typical farm tractors and other vehicles to Minecraft. To proceed, you must first install the Forge profile. Therefore, connect to the official website of this profile and press the Installer button. Don’t forget to select, if necessary, the correct version of Minecraft from the panel on the left.
After that, open the obtained forge- [version] – installer.jar file, check the Install client box and click OK. Great, you now have successfully installed Forge on your computer.
At this point, connect to the CurseForge portal and press the Download button on the right (selecting the correct version of Minecraft). Do the same by connecting to the Obfuscate mod page and downloading the appropriate file.
After that, move / copy the vehicle-mod- [version] .jar and obfuscate- [version] .jar files to your Minecraft mods folder. On Windows , the path to follow is C: \ Users [username] \ AppData \ Roaming.minecraft \ mods , while on macOS it is ~ / Library / Application Support / minecraft / mods . For Windows, my guide on how to view hidden folders may be helpful .
Next, start the Minecraft Launcher, click on the down arrow icon, located on the left, select the Forge profile and press the Play button. Once this is done, enter a game in Creative mode (e.g. the one you used before to create the farm), press the E button on your keyboard, click on the right arrow at the top and select the mod icon ( is at the top left).
At this point, take the Crate with Vehicle (Tractor) item and place it on the ground. In this way, a tractor will appear on the screen. To guide it, just press on it. To go down, you need to use the left Shift button on your keyboard instead.
If you really want to do everything seriously, I recommend that you also try the crates with vehicle Fertilizer, Fluid Trailer, Seeder, Storage Trailer and Vehicle Trailer. Perfect, now you have everything you need to have fun on your farm. I don’t want to give you any more sneak peeks, so have fun!
In any case, once you have “taken a break” from your farming activity, you might want to consider taking a look at the page of my site dedicated to Minecraft, where you can find countless other ideas for your play sessions.
