How to change Windows PC screen resolution
Do you use a PC with Windows installed on it ? Then you can change the screen resolution, and possibly also the font size, by following the instructions below. The procedure to be put into practice is slightly different depending on the edition of the operating system used.
I warn you, in any case, that the change of screen resolution can only take place when the computer’s video card is well recognized by the system. This means that, if the operation fails (ie if the available resolutions are very few and all very low), you must install/enable updated drivers to solve the problem. Having made this premise as well, we can proceed.
Windows 10
You have Windows 10 installed on your computer and are you interested in how to proceed to change the screen resolution? Then the first move you need to make is to go to the desktop and right-click on an empty spot on it. Next, select the Screen Settings item from the menu that is shown to you.
In the window that opens, scroll down the screen, identify the Resolution item and then use the appropriate menu below to set the resolution that you think will do the most for you. Next, click on the Keep changes button to apply and keep the changes made.
If, on the other hand, you would like to find out how to change the screen resolution just because you would like to be able to change the font size of all the elements displayed on the desktop (perhaps to read them better!), The steps you need to take are different from those seen above.
To do this, you have to right-click in an empty spot on the desktop and select the Screen settings item from the menu that appears, then you have to use the adjustment bar located under the item Change the size of text, apps and other elements to set the level of zoom you prefer.
If, on the other hand, you want to act only on the size of the characters without altering the degree of zoom of all the other elements displayed on the screen, press the Start button on the taskbar (the flag at the bottom left) and select the item Settings (the gear icon) from the menu that opens.
In the window that appears, then select the Accessibility> Screen items and move the lever in the Enlarge text section to adjust the size of the sample text. Then, confirm the operation by pressing the Apply button.
Windows 8/7 / Vista
If you are using Windows 8 / 8.x , Windows 7 or Vista, you can change the screen resolution simply by right-clicking in a place on the desktop where there are no icons and selecting Screen resolution from the menu that appears.
In the window that opens, select the resolution you want to apply to your screen from the menu that you find next to the Resolution item. Then click on Apply first and then OK to save the changes.
As for the possibility of changing the size of the writing characters in programs, windows and start menus, all you have to do is go to the desktop, right-click in an empty part of the same and select the Personalize item from the menu that appears.
In the window that opens, select the Screen item located in the left sidebar, in order to access the settings relating to the size of the characters displayed on the screen. So choose whether to increase or decrease the size of the writings, putting the checkmark next to the option that you consider most appropriate and click first on Apply and then on Disconnect now to disconnect and make the changes effective.
Please note that if you are using a computer with Windows 8 / 8.x installed, before you can make the changes in question you will need to check the box next to the item Allow you to choose the resizing level for everyone the screens.
Do you want to customize the DPI on screen even more precisely? Then click on the Custom text size settings (DPI) item, if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, or on Custom size options, if you are using Windows 8 / 8.x, and set the value that you think would best suit you from the menu drop-down located at the top right, in the window that is shown to you.
Windows XP
Do you continue to use the now more than “old” Windows XP? In this case, the procedure you have to put into practice to change the screen resolution is the following: you have to right-click in a point on the desktop where there are no icons and select the Properties item from the menu that appears, then you have to go to the tab Settings of the window that opens.
Therefore, proceed to set the resolution you want to adopt for your screen by moving the scroll bar located under the Screen resolution item and save the settings by clicking first on Apply and then on OK.
If, on the other hand, you are interested in understanding how to intervene only on the size of the fonts you see on the screen, all you have to do is go to the Start menu, click on the Control Panel icon, select the Appearance and Themes item from the window you opens and then go to Screen.
In the window that will open at this point, go to the Settings tab and click on the Advanced button located at the bottom right. Then select the Custom settings item from the DPI setting drop-down menu and choose the size of the text you want to display on the screen.
Note that you may be required to insert the operating system installation disc into your PC to apply the changes.
Change Mac Screen Resolution
If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac and want to find out how to change the screen resolution, the operations to be performed are practically identical for all versions of macOS. In fact, all you have to do is go to System Preferences, clicking on the appropriate icon in the Dock bar (the one in the shape of a gear ) and select the Monitor item from the window that opens.
Then check the Resized option, identify in the box below the resolution that you think will best suit you and select it. The changes you make will be applied instantly.
Eventually, you can also make the Mac “autonomously” identify the most suitable resolution for the screen in use. To do this, simply select the Default per monitor option from the Monitor section of the system preferences screen.
As for the adjustment of the font size, you can make all the necessary changes by right-clicking in a point of the desktop where there are no icons, selecting the item Show View options from the menu that appears and choosing the size of the text that you want to view on screen from the drop-down menu located next to the Text Size item (in the window that opens).
Even then, all changes will be applied to your Mac immediately with no further action required.
Change Ubuntu Screen Resolution
Finally, if you are a user of Ubuntu, one of the most popular Linux distributions, know that you can change the screen resolution simply by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop where there are no elements and selecting the Display Settings item in the menu contextual.
Now select the desired resolution from the drop-down menu in correspondence of the Resolution item and then click first on the Apply button and then on Keep changes to confirm and apply all the changes made.
If, on the other hand, you want to intervene only and exclusively on the font size, click on the ▼ icon, at the top right, and select the Settings item from the menu you see. Now, in the screen that is shown to you, select the Accessibility item and move the lever next to the wording Large Text to ON.
How to change Android screen resolution
If, on the other hand, you intend to change the resolution of the Android screen, you should know that unfortunately not all models of smartphones and tablets with the famous “green robot” operating system allow you to perform this operation.
Some, however, allow you to change the resolution between some preset values, also to ensure greater energy savings. For example, on the Huawei smartphone in my possession, you have to reach the Settings panel (the gear icon on the home screen or in the drawer).
Once this is done, select the items Display and brightness> Screen resolution and choose one of the resolutions listed. Probably the Intelligent resolution option could be activated automatically, which self-adjusts the display: in this case, disable this feature and then choose one of the resolutions that are proposed to you.
As for the magnification instead of just text, you can act by reaching the items Display and brightness> Text and display size, located in the Android Settings panel. Using the appropriate lever, you can adjust the size of the characters, as well as that of the elements.
How to change iPhone and iPad screen resolution
On the iPhone and iPad, however, it is not possible to change the screen resolution, as seen previously on PC and Android devices. In this case, the only operation you can perform is to act on the enlargement (or reduction) of the text.
In this regard, what you can do is open the Settings app ( the gear icon on the home screen), select the Screen and brightness> Text size items. You just have to adjust the bar you see, to change the size of the text. If you want to deepen this topic, I recommend reading this tutorial of mine.
How to change Samsung TV screen resolution
Do you own a Samsung TV? In this case, depending on the model in your possession, you can proceed with changing the display resolution. How? Nothing easier!
All you have to do is carefully read all the tips I gave you in my tutorial on how to resize the Samsung TV screen, in which you will find useful information on both how to change the resolution and how to set a different aspect ratio.
Similar operations can be carried out, of course, also on televisions of other brands. Just search well in the system menus.
