Motocross games

Do you follow motocross races regularly? Are you a video game enthusiast? Then I think you’d like to try some motocross games  in which you play the best riders in the world and try your hand at adrenaline-pumping races on two wheels, perhaps challenging other users from all over the globe.

Did I guess? Well … indeed, very well! In fact, today I’m here to offer you a series of video games dedicated to the world of motocross; games that will allow you to unleash your passion and have fun on all the most popular software platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and even Android and iOS. There really is something for everyone.

We will start with a couple of “triple A” titles available for PC and then move on to a series of interesting Flash games and some videogames for smartphones and tablets. All you have to do is choose the game that seems most interesting to you, download it (not necessary for online Flash games) and run it following the very brief instructions below. So, are you ready to venture on your bike on rough roads, spin in the air at several meters high and speed up against challengers from all over the world? The beauty comes only now!

MXGP (Windows)

As his title suggests quite easily, MXGP is the official title dedicated to the motocross championship. It benefits from excellently crafted 3D graphics and offers gameplay that manages to be both realistic and fun. It includes all the riders, bikes and tracks of the MX1 and MX2 categories and can also be played in online multiplayer mode.

MXGP is only compatible with Windows and costs 19.99 euros. If you want, however, a trial version is available on Steam that you can download totally free. The only thing you need is the official Steam client and a free account on this platform.

To download the official Steam client, connect to  the service’s website  and first click the Install Steam button   located at the top right and then the Install Steam now button  . Then open the SteamSetup.exe file  you just downloaded and click first on  Yes  and then on  Next . Then place the check mark next to the item  I accept the license agreement  and complete the setup by first clicking on  Next  for two consecutive times and then on  Install  and  Finish .  

At this point, wait for all the files necessary for the functioning of Steam to be downloaded from the Internet (about 115MB of data) and create your free account on the platform by clicking on the  Create a new account / Accept button  and filling out the form that is proposed to you. It will take a few seconds.

Once you have registered, connect to the Steam page that hosts MXGP and click on the Download demo button  located in the right sidebar. Then press on  Yes, Steam is installed , wait for the Steam client to be opened and click on  Next  (twice in a row) and  Finish .

Once the demo download is complete, go to the Steam Library tab , locate MXGP and click the Play button   to start playing.

MMX vs. ATV Reflex (Windows)

MX vs. ATV Reflex is a title dedicated in a generic way to the world of offroad racing. It has great 3D graphics and allows you to choose from a wide range of vehicles and scenarios. It can also count on a large number of comments that releases skins, tracks and mods to customize the game.

The game is available exclusively for Windows and can be purchased for 19.99 euros on Steam. The procedure to follow is similar to that seen previously for MXGP.

X-Moto (Windows / Mac / Linux)

If you are looking for a more basic pastime, I recommend that you take a look at  X-Moto . It is a free and open source video game dedicated to the world of motocross available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It is not really a two-wheel racing title, but a skill game in which you have to complete courses without unbalancing your vehicle. It has very well done 2D graphics, very fun gameplay and, above all, excellent physics.

To download it to your PC, connect to its official website and click on the xmoto–0.5.11-win32.zip link . When the download is complete, open the zip archive you just downloaded, extract the contents to any folder and launch the xmoto.exe application to start playing.

If you use a Mac, download the game by clicking on the link  xmoto-0.5.10 -macosx.zip , copy it to the Applications folder  of OS X and run it by right clicking on its icon and selecting the Open item  from the menu that appears.

Motocross games online

Now let’s move on  to motocross games that can be used directly online without resorting to any particular software. All you need is a browser with Flash Player support (a free plugin that is compatible with Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox and Safari and is included “standard” in Chrome).

First of all, I recommend that you visit the BikerGames site which is dedicated exclusively to motoring Flash games on two wheels. Among these there are classic motocross races but also original titles, of various kinds (from platform to action), which have motorcycles as protagonists. To start playing, “browse” the available titles using the numbers located at the bottom of the page and click on the preview image of the video game you wish to try. If required, on the page that opens, click on the Play [name of the game] link and enjoy!

Another site of the same type is CarMotoGames , which however is not dedicated exclusively to motorcycle games but more generally to motor video games (including those of cars and other vehicles). It contains a very rich motocross section with dozens of Flash titles ready to be tested, just click on their preview images.

The same goes for Kongregate , one of the most popular Flash game sites in the world that no longer needs any introduction. Note that if you want to play multiplayer and / or want to keep track of your scores, you must register for free on the portal by clicking on the Register item located at the top of the page.

Note: Some more advanced titles, those with 3D graphics, may need Unity Web Player , another free plugin compatible with all major web browsers. Also works on Mac.

Motocross games for smartphones and tablets

To conclude, as promised, here is a series of motocross games for smartphones and tablets. Also in this field there is something for all tastes.

• 2XL MX Offroad– breathtaking motocross races in a title that with its beautiful 3D graphics and fast-paced gameplay has already conquered many users all over the world. Free, for Android and iOS .
• Ultimate MotoCross 2– a “pure” Motocross game featuring excellent 3D graphics. It includes over 5 different bikes (in the basic version) and allows you to customize the vehicles in various ways. It is available for free for Android and iOS .
• eXtreme MotoCross Free– it is a very fun freestyle motocross game in which you have to make a lot of evolutions on your bike. Very good 3D graphics. Free, for Android and iOS .
• Motocross Pro– an original 2D side-scrolling title in which, aboard your motocross bike, you have to reach the end of the levels avoiding all the obstacles scattered along them. It is available for free on Android and iOS .
• Stickman Downhill– a hilarious 2D side-scrolling dedicated to motocross featuring a stickman-style little man. The aim is to get to the end of the levels without tipping over and avoiding all obstacles. Free, for Android and iOS .
