How to speed up Linkem connection

You recently activated a new subscription to Linkem and, at least initially, you found the quality of the Internet connection satisfactory. However, for a few days now you have begun to encounter problems of various kinds: the Wi-Fi signal is no longer stable as before and is continuously interrupted, navigation is extremely slow and, therefore, carrying out common everyday operations is become very difficult for you.

In light of this, even before requesting a change of operator, you would be curious to know if there is anything you can do to try to improve the situation. Well, if this is your real need, know that you are in the right place, at the right time! In fact, below I will explain how to speed up Linkem connection by applying small tricks that can increase, even significantly, the quality of surfing the Net.

Of course, I can’t promise you miracles (since the cause could also be attributable to a quality service that is not excellent for your area), but trying not to harm! So, without waiting any longer, try to put into practice the suggestions I am about to give you. I cross my fingers for you!

Useful strategies to speed up Linkem connection

The first thing I recommend you do, even before contacting Linkem technical assistance, is to put into practice some general strategies, potentially capable of improving the quality of the network signal, even in a significant way. Below is a list of the most effective.

Change the type of wireless network

Does the wireless signal become intermittent (and consequently very slow) when you move slightly away from the router, change rooms, or position yourself near other electronic devices? Then you may have problems using the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Don’t you know what I’m talking about? Then give me a few moments to give you some theoretical information.

The modern network equipment provided by Linkem, both external and internal, are able to provide two types of wireless access: the one that acts on the 2.4 GHz band and the one that, on the other hand, uses the 5 GHz band.

In short, suffice it to say that the bandwidth of the first category of networks is limited to only 100 MHz, so it is more prone to interference when there are multiple connections active at the same time; the bandwidth of 5 GHz networks is extremely greater and significantly limits this risk. Moreover, with the same bandwidth, 5 GHz networks transmit more data than 2.4 GHz ones, reaching theoretical speeds much higher.

However, Wi-Fi networks operating on the 5 GHz band are significantly affected by the presence of rigid obstacles, be they solid objects of large size, walls or other elements that are easily found within the walls of the house (wardrobes, partitions and etc). For this reason, they are mainly suitable for covering spaces of limited size; to cover large spaces with a more stable and less interrupted signal, the use of the 2.4 GHz network remains indicated, which suffers more channel congestion but passes through solid objects more easily.

In light of this, before doing anything, connect to Linkem’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and check if the situation improves: generally, this network is active by default, it has the wording “2.4GHz” in its name ( eg Linkem2.4GHz ) and has the same password as the 5GHz network.

If the wireless network is not visible, you may have to manually enable it from the router management interface: therefore, approach the network device to make sure you have enough signal, connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and, after opening the browser you usually use to surf the Internet, type the address 192.168.1.1 and press Enter.

If everything went well, you should see the modem login screen, which requires you to enter your username and password: if this is your first time logging in, enter your guest username and password linkem123 and press the Apply button, in order to complete the login.

Once you have entered the modem management interface, click on the Wi-Fi item located in the sidebar, then press on the Settings sub-menu and click on the 2.4 GHz WiFi item or on the 2.4G symbol, located at the top; finally, click on the Enable button to activate the dedicated network interface and, if necessary, use the options available to change the name and access key of the newly activated network.

When you are finished, click on the Apply button, wait a few seconds for the router to make the settings operational and connect to the newly generated network, with the classic procedure provided by your device. Therefore, move away from the router and check that the network coverage (and, consequently, the speed), in the position of your interest, has improved.

If the area of ​​the house where you placed the router is populated by other appliances that use the 2.4 GHz band (microwave devices, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, other Wi-Fi networks from neighbors, and more), you can try to improve further the situation, choosing a channel less congested by interference: I explained how to do it in the immediately following section of this guide.

Change the Wi-Fi channel

If choosing one frequency band instead of the other did not have the desired effect, you can try to change the Wi-Fi channel used by the modem for the 2.4 GHz wireless network, choosing one that is less congested and less prone to interference. other devices or objects in the vicinity.

As I explained to you in my guide on the subject, wireless networks on 2.4 GHz frequency have 13 channels, for a range of 100 MHz, which occupy 20 MHz each: the only ones that never overlap each other, calculations in hand, they are 16 and 11, but they could still be congested by the presence of other Wi-Fi modems that “think” in the same way.

With this little preamble done, let me explain how to locate the least congested wireless channel, using a series of programs, apps and utilities designed for the purpose.

  • Windows: download the WifiInfoView program, extract the archive in a folder of your choice and run the .exe file inside it. Then click on the Yes button to authorize the execution of the program and press on the Channel tab, to quickly identify the freest channel.
  • macOS: holding down the option key on the keyboard, click on the Wi-Fi cleats icon visible at the top right, choose the Open Wireless Diagnosis … item from the menu that appears and click on the Continue button. Now, use the Window> Scan menu to find the best channels to use for the various frequencies.
  • Android: download the Wi-Fi Analyzer app from the Play Store or from the alternative market on your device (if the latter does not have Google services), start it and, after granting the necessary permissions, take a look at the proposed graph to find the freest wireless channel.
  • iOS / iPadOS: open the Settings menu > AirPort Utility of the iPhone or iPad, activate the lever called Wi-Fi Analysis and, subsequently, launch the iOS AirPort Utility application. Now, tap on the Wi-Fi Analysis item and press the Analyze button, to get the list of active networks nearby. To view the list of Wi-Fi channels used by network devices, tap on the (i) button visible at the top right.

Once you have identified the least congested channel, all you have to do is use it for the Wi-Fi network: even in this case, the operation must be carried out via the Linkem modem management panel.

After connecting to the wireless network generated by the latter, open the browser of your choice, type the address 192.168.1.1 and press the Apply button. Now, if it is the first time you access the device, enter the guest username and password linkem123 and press the button to log in; otherwise, enter the credentials you previously customized and click the Apply button.

Once logged in, click on the Wi-Fi item attached to the side menu, then on the Settings option and, if your modem supports double transmission band, click on the 2.4G symbol or on the 2.4GHz WiFi card.

Now, locate the Radio Channel option and set, within the corresponding drop-down menu (which should be on the Auto option ), the channel number you chose earlier. Finally, click on the Apply button visible at the bottom and that’s it.

The issue is different for 5 GHz networks, which have an extremely wide frequency band and 23 channels, which hardly interfere with each other: for this reason, it should not be necessary to change the channel of the Wi-Fi network to 5 GHz; in any case, if you still want to choose the less congested one, you can follow the same instructions seen a little while ago (but remember to intervene on the 5 GHz network).

Change the location of the modem

If the solutions I have indicated so far have not been able to solve your problem, you just have to take the most drastic of roads and try to reposition the modem where the LTE / 5G FWA network signal is best. This option, however, can only be put into practice if the connection to the Linkem network is provided to you via the internal device, i.e. via the self-installing all-in-one modem, which works without the external antenna.

To understand this, if your Linkem subscription has been activated without the intervention of a technician to install a receiver outside the home (on the balcony or in correspondence of a window), it is highly likely that you have an internal modem.

If this is the case for you, then disconnect the modem from the power supply and place it in a place as central as possible to the apartment, so that its wireless signal can cover all the rooms of the apartment as much as possible. Ideally, the internal modem should be placed near a window so that the LTE / FWA network signal from the outside can be received without problems.

Furthermore, in order to avoid unpleasant phenomena due to wave bounce or signal congestion, make sure to install the modem at a height of more than one meter and not beyond the door jambnot to close the device inside furniture ( especially if metallic) and to position it, for the reasons I explained to you a little while agoaway from other metallic or wireless devices that could generate interference.

By following these indications, you should be able to significantly improve the quality of the Linkem connection, increasing both the reception of the radio signal and the coverage of the Wi-Fi signal generated by the modem. Once you have identified the position that you think is optimal, all you have to do is place the router there, turn it on and check that everything is going well.

In case of doubts or problems

How do you say? Although you followed the instructions I gave you, were you unable to improve the quality of the connection in any way? In this case, I think I have no good news to give you: most likely, your problem is due to the poor LTE / FWA network signal, or to a technical malfunction of Linkem equipment.
