You probably already play Fortnite with the Nintendo Switch, so you already know that you do NOT need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play Fortnite and you have probably already installed the game after downloading it from Nintendo eShop.
How do you say? Haven’t you done it yet? Do not worry, in case you have not yet played Fornite on Switch, the guides that I have just reported to you can help you in all the preliminary operations. Another important step is obviously to have a Nintendo account: of fundamental importance since it is used to access all online services, including the online store called Nintendo eShop.
If you have yet to create a Nintendo account, find out how to do this too by reading the guide I just linked to you. I assure you that it is really worth it, since you can also download free games from Nintendo eShop!
That said, as soon as you are ready to proceed, you can take action with the actual procedure I tell you about in the following chapters.
How to shop on Fortnite with Nintendo Switch
The time has come to learn how to shop Fortnite with Nintendo Switch, so as to acquire your arsenal of skins and all the V-Bucks you need to finish your customizations in the game.
In the next chapters I will explain in more detail how you can buy online on Nintendo Switch without having a credit card and how to redeem V-Bucks for the Nintendo console. In any case, whatever payment method you choose to use to shop on Fortnite, I strongly suggest activating the 2FA access system on Nintendo Switch, undoubtedly the safest to protect your information and your online purchases.
How to shop on Fortnite without a credit card
The purchase of content from Nintendo eShop is possible after adding funds to your Nintendo Account, in particular in your virtual wallet linked to the account.
This addition is possible through various payment methods, including credit cards or prepaid cards, but also a PayPal account or a Nintendo eShop Card.
The procedure for adding funds to your account varies depending on the systems used. For example, if you are looking for a way not to enter sensitive payment information into your Nintendo Account, such as your credit card number, then the safest solution is to use Nintendo eShop Cards.
What is it about? Simple, they are prepaid top-ups created directly by Nintendo and sold in various denominations ( 15, 25 and 50 euros ) through the most disparate channels, including physical stores of electronics and video games and also online, on sites like Amazon.
These top-ups consist of alphanumeric codes which, once entered in the Nintendo eShop, allow you to increase the funds by the relative amount purchased. In short, no charging costs.
The convenience of these top-ups also lies in the fact that it is easier and safer to manage the funds: once the recharged amount has been used up, it is not possible to make unwanted purchases because the availability of the funds is exhausted, so you will have to make a new top-up before you can spend. other money online.
Whether you have decided to use a credit/debit card, a Nintendo redeems code or your PayPal account, first proceed to add funds to your Nintendo Switch account.
From the home menu, double-tap the Nintendo eShop icon (identifiable by the icon of a yellow shopping bag), then choose the account with which to enter the online store by selecting the respective profile picture and wait for the system to ask you to enter your online account password.
Once connected to Nintendo eShop, tap on your profile icon located in the upper right corner and from the Account Information screen press the Add funds button under Current credit.
The system now offers you the method of adding funds. To proceed with credit or prepaid cards, press the Credit Card button and follow the instructions on the screen by entering all the card information, if you choose PayPal, press the relevant button and then follow the instructions and access your PayPal account by writing your username and password and then authorizes the addition of funds. Finally, if you want to proceed without a credit card, tap the central Nintendo eShop Card button.
In the next step you are asked to enter the prepaid code, then tap on the line in the center and start typing the prepaid code using the on-screen keyboard. Confirm everything by pressing the OK key on the virtual keyboard and wait for the code to be validated.
Alternatively, you can also proceed from a PC, smartphone or tablet, via the Nintendo eShop website, by logging into your Nintendo Account and pressing the Add Funds button.
If everything went well, your account’s availability of funds has been increased by the amount corresponding to the top-up. You can check your funds at any time from the Nintendo eShop Account Information screen.
I would like to point out that if the purchase of an item on Fortnite leaves a residual credit that cannot be spent due to insufficient funds, this will not be lost but will remain in your wallet and will be added to the next top-up, exactly as it happens with telephone top-ups.
Adding funds to the Nintendo Account was the most substantial and important part of being able to buy on Fortnite from the Nintendo Switch, so let me explain the next steps to you now.
Returning to the main Nintendo Switch menu, open the Fortnite game by tapping on its icon and choosing the account to play with (it must be the same one that has funds available). After loading, from the main game menu, tap on the Item Shop item, to consult the catalog of purchasable skins. Now select the item to buy and press the Buy button.
Since purchases on Fortnite are made using V- Bucks (the game’s digital currency), if you do not have any in your virtual wallet yet, instead of the “Buy” button, you will see the V-Buck Reload button. After pressing it, the game will offer you the purchase of different amounts of game currency (e.g. 1,000 V-Buck for 7.99 euros or 5,000 V-Buck for 31.99 euros ), then select the one of your preference and press the Buy button.
There is also another menu where you can purchase V-Buck using your Nintendo eShop credit, namely the V-Buck menu of the Fortnite main menu (it is the last selectable item). Again, you can choose different packages: after making your choice, press the Buy button.
That’s it, complete your “shoppata” and then find all the purchased content in your character ‘s Locker. From here I remind you that you can equip and manage them as you please.
How to redeem V-Buck on Nintendo Switch
Do you have a V-Buck card for Fortnite and would like to understand how to redeem it on Nintendo Switch? The operation is not difficult at all, but I anticipate that it is not possible to proceed directly from Nintendo Switch: you must use the dedicated Epic Games site.
Furthermore, I want to clarify that the possibility that you have these cards is also quite remote, for the simple fact that these are not normally sold on the Italian market (at least at the time of writing), where the sale of credit is preferred for the ‘ adding funds, as I explained to you before.
However, if you have a V-Buck Card, you also need an Epic Games account to access the address I reported above. If you do not have it, you can follow the procedure described in this article, remembering to merge the account created with the Nintendo one as I explain here.
Once you have entered the dedicated site, click on the Let’s Get Started button and select the Login with Nintendo option, then continue by entering the V-Buck card code in the appropriate text box, then select the Next button and choose the device you play with in Fortnite. Complete the procedure by following the on-screen instructions and, if all goes well, when you enter Fortnite from your Nintendo console you will have the V-Bucks redeemed from the site.
Now you are ready to shop on Fortnite with Nintendo Switch, but did you know that there are also ways to get free V-Buck in Fortnite? I’ll talk about it in detail in the guide I just linked to and, since the topic related to free content is always very interesting, I think I can also recommend my article on how to get free skins on Fortnite. I wish you profitable shopping and lots of fun!
