Preliminary information

Before going into the details of the procedure on how to play Pokémon on iPhone , I think it may interest you to know more about this possibility.

Well, the main Pokémon games available on the iPhone are two: Pokémon GO and Pokémon Masters . The first is a title, now particularly famous, in which players must go to conquer gyms and search for Pokémon in the real world, exploiting the potential of augmented reality .

The second, however, is a slightly more “classic” title, which can be played comfortably sprawled on the sofa (just like with the main Game Freak series for portable consoles). Do not expect an experience like that of “traditional” games, but it is an excellent pastime, which offers a high amount of content and gameplay that “mixes” traditional mechanics with other innovative ones, which allow you to make more ” usable ”the game via touch controls.

In short, the possibilities offered to iPhone players are many and probably at least one of the two games mentioned will intrigue you, if you are a Pokémon fan. In fact, for completeness of information, there are also two other titles available for iPhone: Pokémon Rumble Rush and Pokémon Quest . The first is a light and carefree RPG in which you go to the capture of Pokémon between seas and islands. In short, the story does not count here and, in fact, it is considered a somewhat “repetitive” title by many. The second, on the other hand, is a title with Minecraft- style “cubes” graphics , which requires the player to capture all the Pokémon on the map.

In general, these last two chapters are considered the least successful spin-offs, as they are considered by the community as titles to spend some time in joy and little more. In this tutorial, therefore, I will focus on Pokémon GO and Pokémon Masters , the titles that I recommend you try first. However, I wanted to let you know about the existence of Pokémon Rumble Rush and Pokémon Quest in case you have already finished all the games available and are looking for more possible experiences of this type.

How to install Pokémon on iPhone

The two titles that I briefly illustrated to you in the previous chapter , namely Pokémon GO and Pokémon Masters, are both downloadable for free (there are in-app purchases) from the App Store, which is the official store from where you can install all the apps compatible with the your iPhone. Obviously, the indications I give you in this post are also valid for learning how to play Pokémon GO on iPad .

The procedure for installing a Pokémon game on your smartphone does not change from the one you usually use to download other apps. Then open the App Store (the blue icon with the letter “A”, located on the main screen of the iPhone), search for the title you are interested in via the search bar , accessible through the lens icon button located at the bottom right and select the icon of the game you are interested in from the search results. Alternatively, you can use this direct link for Pokémon GO or go to the official Pokémon Masters page .

Then tap the Get button and verify your identity via Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password. Perfect, now you just have to wait for the iPhone to download and install the game. Once the procedure is complete, you have to tap on the Open button , or on the app icon on the Home screen, to start the game.

If you just can’t figure out how to download the game, you probably haven’t created an Apple ID yet. In that case, I suggest you give consult my dedicated guide .

How to get started on Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is the most talked about mobile title among those I mentioned in the introductory chapter . It is, in fact, a game that uses augmented reality and requires the user to venture into the real world , where he could meet other people intent on doing the same.

In short, Pokémon GO is more than a game, since it takes you to explore places close to where you are that you may never have paid particular attention to, such as, for example, a monument of historical importance. Once you have started the game and granted all the appropriate permissions , from notifications to the camera , passing through geolocation , the title will ask you to type in your date of birth and log in . There are several possibilities: from the Google account to the Pokémon Trainer Club profile .

If you do not have the latter available, you can create it by tapping on Register and filling out the form that appears on the screen with the required data. If you run into any problems at this juncture, I suggest you take a look at my tutorial on how to access Pokémon GO , where I have illustrated all the possibilities of the case.

Once you enter the game and accept the terms of use , Pokémon GO will guide you to the basic mechanics through a quick introductory tutorial . You will then come to create your avatar and walk in the real world . In this phase, you will meet the first Pokémon , seeing them appear on the screen. Of course, you will be provided with Poké Balls with which you can catch them. All this in augmented reality , that is, using the camera of your iPhone. Once the initial phase is complete, you will need to choose your nickname , which will also be displayed by other users.

In short, taking the first steps on Pokémon GO is very simple and the game “takes the user by the hand”, so you won’t have any problems in being able to continue the adventure. I’ll stop here also because I don’t want to give you too many spoilers: in my view, the title of Niantic must be “experienced” in the first person to be enjoyed properly.

In any case, if you need more information, you can find it in my guide on how Pokémon GO works and on the page of my site dedicated to the title of Niantic , where you can find countless indications that can do for you.

How to start playing Pokémon Masters

As for Pokémon Masters , however, it is a slightly different title, given that it is based on three- on- three battles .

Once the game has started, provide all the appropriate permissions , press on the Touch to start item and choose the language of the characters’ voices (at the time of writing, unfortunately, Italian is not available). Then, enter the date of birth , accept the EULA , consent to the use of data , choose whether to transfer the data (in case you have previously played Pokémon Masters) and activate the notifications .

At this stage, you will be asked if you want to download the additional data . If you refuse, you can follow the tutorial anyway, but I advise you to download them, if possible, right away, so as not to have “surprises” later on.

Once the setup is complete, the Blue character will welcome you to Pokémon Masters, asking you to enter your nickname and choose the character ‘s appearance . After making your acquaintance, Blu will show you the existence of the WPM , a tournament in which the best coaches from around the world face off in three-on-three team battles . Each trainer can only have one Pokémon on the pitch , so this is a title where teamwork is key .

Following the chat with Blu, you will be greeted by a receptionist , who will provide you with a Porygophone , a necessary tool to “recruit” the other Trainers who will be part of your team. In this Tutorial stage, the game will automatically find two “special” Trainers for you and you will have a Pikachu as a Pokémon.

Alongside the latter, you will be prompted to choose a starter , including Bulbasaur , Charmender and Squirtle . The starter will be provided to you as an egg , so you will have time to train a little, following the story, before the latter hatches.

After the choice of the starter and some “cutscene”, it will be time to do the first battle . The mechanics of the fight are very simple: in the lower center you have the moves of your Pokémon , while through the boxes on the right and left you can select the other members of your team and use the moves of their Pokémon.

To win, you can switch between team members and combine Pokémon moves in the best possible way. In short, starting to play Pokémon Masters is very simple and you will see that the tutorials proposed by the title will explain everything you need to know. I limited myself to the basic mechanics also to not give you too many previews.

Perfect, now you know everything there is to know about the possibilities offered by the world of Pokémon on the iPhone . I just have to wish you a lot of fun and good luck in your career as a Pokémon Trainer!
