Gather the necessary resources

Before we start talking to you about how to make a shield in Minecraft, it is important to point out the necessary resources to carry out this project.

A shield in Minecraft is made up of wood and iron. To recover these resources, you will first need to equip yourself with the necessary tools: an ax for the lumber and a pickaxe for the iron veins. Actually, the ax is not essential, because you can collect wood from trees even with your bare hands, but I recommend that you use this tool to speed up the harvest.

To build an ax, you have to place 2 units of sticks and 3 planks of wood or other materials that allow you to make this tool with a superior quality. An example is crushed stone for the stone ax or gold for the golden one.

Having obtained this tool, you will have to equip it and interact on a tree, to collect the wood logs. the latter must then be inserted in one of the Inventory’s Fabrication slots or in a workbench, to convert them into wooden planks, an essential resource for the creation of a shield.

Finally, as a last resort, you need to get some iron ingots. Although the latter can be found as a reward in crates scattered around the world of Minecraft, it is easier to collect the raw iron to work then in a furnace. But let’s go in order.

First, you need a stone or higher quality pickaxe. To build one in stone, you need 2 units of sticks and 3 units of crushed stone, to be placed inside a workbench. Having obtained the pickaxe, explore the underground of Minecraft, to come across the veins of raw iron, on which you will have to use the newly created tool. The raw iron thus obtained must then be placed inside a furnace to convert it into iron ingots.

Create a shield

Now that you know all the resources needed to make a shield in Minecraft, it’s time to start making this project. First, make sure you have 6 units of wooden planks and an iron ingot in inventory.

At this point, interact on a workbench and place these resources inside it, as indicated by the diagram available in the Recipes section. You can also click on the shield icon, among the achievable projects in the list, to automatically load the resources present in the inventory into the workbench.

Now, all that remains is to drag the shield icon from the workbench to the inventory and then equip it in the appropriate slot dedicated to the shield. It was easy, am I right?

Coloring a shield

If you want to make a banner with a solid color, you can use colored wool. If you want to add a texture, however, you will need to apply dyes to the manufactured banner. the latter are available in nature, through the processing of specific resources: for example, red is obtained from red tulips, while yellow from sunflowers.

When you have the dye, place the banner in the workbench and add several units of dye: I recommend that you delight in placing the banner and dye units in different slots, so as to see the numerous colored textures resulting from the crafting process.

For example, if you wanted to create a texture consisting of red vertical stripes on a white background, place the white banner in the slot in the center of the lower row and then add 4 units of red dye on the first and third slots of the upper and middle row.

You can also create actual symbols on the banners, such as the pirate skull. You will need to get ahead from the skeletons found in the Nether fortresses. At this point, you will need to place the banner on the middle slot of the bottom row, the skull on the first slot of the middle row, and a unit of dye on the slot in the center.

When you’ve found the combination you like best, pick up the banner you got and place it back on the workbench, this time together with the shield. By doing so, the banner texture will be applied to the shield.
