It is needed to upgrade to newer and better types of tools and armor, since you need a pickaxe to get the materials in the first place. From slow wooden tools to nearly unbreakable netherite, it all starts with a humble pickaxe.

To craft a wooden pickaxe, place two sticks in the 2nd column of the crafting grid. Then place three wooden planks in a row above the sticks.

To make a pickaxe in Minecraft you will need:

• sticks;
• Appropriate material (wood planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, gold ingots, diamond and netherite);
• Workbench;
• Blacksmith table (for improving netherite).

To make your first pickaxe in Minecraft, you will need to start with wood. To continue up the chain, you’ll need the best material your current pickaxe can mine. If you have wood, you can mine for stone; stone picks can mine to iron; iron can mine diamonds; finally, a diamond can mine ancient fragments from which netherite is made.

How to make a pickaxe in Minecraft

The recipe for each pickaxe is identical to the previous one, simply replacing the material on top with the next one. First, collect a few logs with your hands. Turn logs into wooden planks by placing them in the crafting menu.

How to Upgrade a Diamond Pickaxe to Netherite

In order to get the Nether Ingot, you will need to find Ancient Fragments in the Nether. Ancient Debris spawns below level 22 “Y” and you can find one to four pieces at a time. To get to the underworld, you will need to build a portal to the underworld. You can do this by placing obsidian four blocks wide and five blocks high.

Then light the portal to the underworld with flint and steel. To make flint and steel, you will need iron and flint. Just place a flint and an iron ingot in your crafting menu in any of the nine crafting slots and you can start your journey through the underworld.

To light up your portal, make sure you light one of the inner obsidian blocks, stand in the portal for a few seconds and get ready to face the fiery depths of the underworld.

Ancient debris will appear between levels 8 and 22 “Y”. The best place to find the most is to dig around “Y” level 15. This will require you to dig under several lava lakes. Try to find a spot where the earth is protruding from the lava and dig out from there.

Ancient debris has a rocky appearance, and the top and bottom of the block have a swirling texture.

To craft one Netherite Ingot, you will need to find four Ancient Fragments and four Gold Ingots. Mine the ancient wreckage with a diamond pickaxe. Smelt your ancient junk in the furnace to get Netherite Scrap.

After smelting the scrap, combine it with four gold ingots at the workbench. You can customize the recipe however you want.

Each ingot can upgrade any diamond tool or armor to Netherite Armor. For this you will need a blacksmith table. To make a blacksmithing table, combine four wooden planks with two iron ingots above it to upgrade your tool and armor.

Place the blacksmith table and right click to open it. Place the diamond pickaxe on the left and the netherite ingot on the right.

This will give you the best base pickaxe in the game. The smithing table will retain all the enchantments you had on the pickaxe, so don’t worry about losing anything when upgrading your pickaxe. Netherite has some special properties: it cannot be melted by lava or destroyed by fire. It will just float on top of the lava.
