How to edit PDF document

Have you received a PDF document to fill in by email but you don’t know how to do it? Do you need to add a few lines of text to a PDF document but the programs currently installed on your computer do not allow you to succeed in the enterprise? If that’s the case … don’t panic! In fact, regardless of the motivation, know that editing PDF document is possible and it is also very simple. You just need to have the right tools at your disposal.

There are several resources with which to edit PDFs: computer programs, online services and applications for smartphones and tablets. It is therefore only up to you to choose the tool that best suits your needs to edit PDF documents.

I, therefore, suggest that you take a few minutes of free time and concentrate on reading the following lines in order to identify the resource that you think may be more suitable for editing PDF documents. Don’t worry, they are all very practical tools for which you don’t need to be an IT expert.

Edit PDF document from computer

If it is your intention to edit PDF document directly from your computer and, why not, without even spending money, I suggest you use LibreOffice. If you have never heard of it, know that LibreOffice is a free suite for productivity alternative to Microsoft Office that can be used on all operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (it is included as standard in numerous distros, starting from Ubuntu). Being a productivity suite LibreOffice also allows you to act on PDF files.

To download LibreOffice click here to connect to the suite’s official website and then press the green button Download now. Then presses the button Download the xxx version located under the heading Main installation program and wait for the download of the suite to be started automatically. If you are using a Mac remember to also click on the Translated user interface button to download the Italian language pack which in the version for OS X is not included in the basic installation package as is the case for Windows.

When the download is complete, if you are using Windows, open, by double-clicking on it, the installation package called  LibreOffice_x.x.x_Win_x86.msi and first click on  Next twice consecutively and then on  Install,  Yes and  Finish to complete the setup. If you are using OS X, open the LibreOffice dmg package and drag the software icon to the Applications folder, then open the package with the language pack and start the LibreOffice Language Pack file by right-clicking on it and selecting the Open item from the menu that appears. In the window that opens, click the Install button twice in a row and the LibreOffice interface will be automatically translated into Italian.

At this point you can finally take action and get started and start editing PDF document from your computer. To do this, start LibreOffice by double-clicking on the suite icon, wait for the program window to be shown to you, then click on the Open file item located at the top left and select the PDF document saved on your computer that you want to modify.

Once this is done, the LibreOffice Draw application will open through which you can modify the PDF content to your liking by simply selecting the elements to act on with the mouse and then pressing the appropriate buttons located on the toolbar.

After modifying the PDF document, you can save the edited file by selecting the Export in PDF format item from the File menu and then clicking on the Export button in the window that will open.

Edit PDF document online

If it is your intention to modify PDF document but you do not want to install additional programs on your computer, you can resort to the use of special online services as in the case of the excellent PDFescape. In fact, this is a free Web service that allows you to edit PDF files directly from the Web browser and in a very simple and intuitive way.

If you intend to modify PDF document with PDFescape click here to connect to the main page of the service and then drag the file you wish to act on in the box with the word Drop PDF Here. Alternatively, you can press the Choose file button, select the PDF file stored on your computer that you want to edit and then click the Upload button.

Wait a few moments for the file to be uploaded. Then you will find yourself in the presence of an editor divided into three tabs through which to make changes to the PDF. In the Insert section you will find the buttons to insert text, images, drawings and other customized elements into the document, in the Annotated section you will find the highlighter and annotations while using the Page section you can modify the pages of the document by rotating, cutting and deleting them.

Once you have made all the desired changes to the PDF document, click on the green icon on the left side of the editor in order to download the edited PDF directly to your computer.

Edit PDF document from smartphone and tablet

If it is your intention to edit PDF document from a smartphone or tablet because you often find yourself out and about and you do not have the possibility to use a computer, I suggest you resort to the use of Xodo PDF. It is a free application for Android, iOS and Windows tablets that allows you to view PDF documents and edit them freely.

To edit PDF document with Xodo PDF download and install the application on your device. Then start the application by pressing on its icon. Once this is done, press the + button or the folder-shaped icon to open the PDF file you want to edit. Wait for the PDF to act on is opened and then use the appropriate commands attached to the toolbar at the top of the screen to make the various changes.

Once you have made all the desired changes to the PDF document, you can save it on your device, open it with another app, print it or send it by e-mail.
