Preliminary information
Before going into the details of the procedure on how to modify a Sim already created on The Sims , I think it may interest you to know more about this possibility.
Well, generally, players want to modify a character already created to fix the personality traits , since maybe the latter are not exactly the best. I can understand why you want to make this change, as traits particularly affect a Sim’s behavior.
As for the aesthetic change , however, there are users who simply have not understood the customization mechanics of their Sim, thinking that the appearance of the latter can no longer be changed once it is created.
In fact, there are not a few who have not thoroughly investigated the mechanics of changing the appearance or have not yet come into contact with the “hidden” editor , which is why I will also focus on this topic during the guide.
How to Edit an Already Created Sim The Sims 4
After having shown you what are generally the types of changes that users want to implement to their already created Sim , I would say that it is time to get to the heart of the tutorial. Below you can find information about The Sims 4 , broken down by platform.
How to edit an already created Sim The Sims 4 PC
The Sims 4 is a very popular title played on PC and you may therefore be interested in learning more about the mechanics of modifying the Sims from this platform.
To proceed, click on the Load a game button , located in the start menu of The Sims 4, select the save in which the Sim you want to edit is present and click on the Play button at the bottom right.
The menu to choose the household will then appear on the screen (to be clear, I am referring to the screen where the game indicates the home of your Sims). At this point, you have to press the Manage households button at the top right.
After that, you just have to select the family unit in which the character of your interest is present and press on the pencil icon , which is located at the bottom right. By doing so, the character editing editor will appear on the screen .
From here you can make all the necessary variations, modifying both the appearance of your Sim, choosing for example his build (if male or female) and his preferences in terms of clothing , and some aspects of his personality , from aspirations to voice .
There is also the possibility to change the style of the walk , as well as to change the name and surname (using the appropriate box at the top left). You can also use the dice icon below to randomly generate your Sim’s outfit and haircut . However, from this menu it is not possible, for example, to change character traits.
If you really don’t like your Sim, you could therefore “try your luck” by generating a new one completely random and with different traits using the gallery , or the catalog of available characters. To do this, just click on the photo icon at the bottom.
This will generate a totally different Sim , which you can use to replace the character you no longer like. If you want to go back to your Sim instead , just press the left arrow icon at the bottom, since the latter cancels the changes .
In any case, if you want, you can also create another Sim from scratch to join your own . To do this, just press the + icon located at the bottom left and create a new character.
Once you have finished all the necessary changes , click on the check icon , located at the bottom right, and that’s it. I know: this isn’t exactly a complete Sim modification, but that’s what the game provides by default.
If you want to do something more consistent, you can do it by going through the tricks . To proceed thus enters the game in which there is the Sims that you want to edit and press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + C .
In this way, you will see a white bar appear on the screen at the top left . Press on it, type the command testingcheats trueand hit Enter . For more details, you can refer to my guide on how to activate cheats on The Sims .
Then, always enter the command in the white bar cas.fulleditmodeand press Enter . You can press the Esc button on your keyboard to close the cheat bar.
At this point, press the key combination Shift + click on your character and you will see advanced options for the Sim appear on the screen . Then click the Edit button in CUS , in order to access a more advanced editor for customizing your Sim.
From the editor in question you can even change the character traits : just press the icon of one of the latter to do so. Alternatively, you can press on the dice icon to randomly generate them.
For the rest, I remind you that, to change the face and other parts of your Sim ‘s body , just press on the part of the body you want to change and select the related options .
Once you have finished making changes , click on the check icon at the bottom right and that’s it: you will return to the game with your “renewed” character, as if nothing had happened.
Just pay attention to the fact that the cheat will remain activated , so when you enter the editor you will always see the possibility to change the strokes as well. If you want to deactivate this mode, just use the command cas.fulleditmode offin the appropriate cheat bar that I showed you how to use earlier.
For the sake of completeness of information, it is also right to make yourself aware of a possibility that allows you to access the modification of your in-game character more quickly . In fact, by entering the Build mode , buying a mirror or a wardrobe and placing it in your Sim’s home, you will always have at your fingertips the edit editor without tricks (obviously the “basic” one).
In fact, just press on the mirror or on the wardrobe and select the Edit the Sim option to directly access the screen I illustrated previously. Additionally, you can also change your character’s clothes from here .
Perfect, now you know a little everything there is to know about the possibilities of modifying your character already created on PC.
How to edit an already created Sim The Sims 4 PS4
The Sims 4 is also appreciated on consoles , so it is good to analyze the procedure also for this platform. Don’t worry – I’ll be using the PlayStation 4 as a practical example, but I’ll actually give you pointers about the other consoles as well . For example, if you’re wondering how to edit an already created Sim on The Sims 4 for Xbox One , this is still the part of the guide for you.
Well, in reality it is all very similar to what I have already explained in the chapter dedicated to the PC version of the game. However, there are some differences in terms of commands and therefore it is good to go into detail about this procedure as well.
You shouldn’t have any problems accessing the game ‘s “base” editor , which you can reach by going to Load a game> Manage households , selecting the right family and pressing the pencil icon .
What may be less clear to you is the access to the “advanced” editor , that is, the one that allows you to modify a bit of everything, including features . Well, in this case, once a game has started , you have to press all the controller’s backbones at the same time , i.e. L1 , L2 , R1 and R2 on PS4 ( LB , RB , LT and RT on Xbox ).
By doing so, the cheat console will appear on the screen . Then type the command testingcheats trueand press the send button . The game will inform you that you will not be able to unlock achievements in this save, even if you deactivate the command later, as you are using cheats.
If you agree, then press the OK button and type the command cas.fulleditmode, sending it. Perfect, now all you have to do is press the O button on the pad ( B on Xbox ) to make the cheat bar disappear. At this point, select your Sim and press on top of it using the controller’s O and X buttons simultaneously ( B and A on Xbox ).
If you are unable to bring up the “advanced” options , I recommend that you first hold down the O key ( B on Xbox ) and, without releasing the latter, then use the X key ( A on Xbox ), obviously always selecting your character.
By doing so, you will see that the option to select the Edit in CUS option will appear on the screen . By pressing on the latter, the advanced editor will open and you can edit everything just like on a PC.
In fact, you just need to select one of the sections on the left to modify them. For the rest, you can also implement all other appropriate changes. Just note that in order to select your Sim ‘s body parts, you may be required to activate the pointer navigation mode .
To do this, simply press the controller touchpad on PS4 or the View button on Xbox (located on the left). Once you have finished all the changes , you just have to press on the check icon at the bottom right to return to play.
For the rest, I remind you that you can buy mirrors or wardrobes in-game and interact with them to quickly access the character edit editor , by selecting the Edit Sim item . Additionally, you can also access options such as Choose a Dress through these items .
In short, the customization possibilities for your already created Sim are not lacking even on consoles, knowing the right procedures. Unfortunately, the use of tricks disables the achievement of the objectives in the game involved, but the mechanics are designed in this way and therefore that is the “price” to pay.
I almost forgot: once you have enabled the code for the “advanced” mode of character customization, the latter will remain active in the game involved. To disable it, you need to use the command cas.fulleditmode off.
More chapters of The Sims
How do you say? Would you like to make the modification of your already created Sim in another chapter of The Sims series ? No problem, I’ll tell you how to do it right away!
As for advanced character editing in other PC chapters, everything works similar to what I explained in The Sims 4 chapter . Put simply, you can go for tricks or for the classic objects , from the mirror to the wardrobe.
To give you a concrete example, I will take a look at The Sims 2 , a title much appreciated by the historical fans of the series. In this case, once you have entered the game , you have to press the classic key combination Ctrl + Shift + C , type the command boolProp TestingCheatsEnabled trueand give Enter , in order to enable the tricks .
After that, open the cheat console again and type the command unlockcareerrewards. In this way, you will unlock, among other elements, the cosmetic surgeon’s machine . To access the latter, just press the Press and Inventory icon at the bottom and scroll through the objects until you find Doctor Vu’s Cosmetic Self-Surgeon .
Place , then, the latter inside the house, select it and choose the option Change facial structure . You may need to do this twice in order to access the face editor , but then you can edit your Sim’s face properly.
As regards, however, the possibilities offered “by default” by the game, you can for example interact with the mirror or with the wardrobe . In the first case, you can change your Sim’s appearance, from hair to face paint , by selecting the Change Appearance option .
If you look at the wardrobe instead, you can use the Choose a suit option to change your outfit. In short, even in a particularly dated chapter like The Sims 2 in the end there is no lack of interesting possibilities to modify your character already created.
For the rest, since you are a fan of the Electronic Arts video game series, I would recommend that you take a look at the page of my site dedicated to The Sims . In fact, in the latter you can find several other tutorials that might be right for you.
