Preliminary operations
Before going into the details of the procedure on how to activate the voice chat on Rocket League , I think it may interest you to know more about the requirements necessary to carry out this operation.
Well, to use the Psyonix game’s voice chat feature you need the appropriate accessories, ie headphones and microphone . If you don’t have one yet, I recommend you take a look at my guide to the best gaming headsets , which almost always include a microphone.
For the rest, an Internet connection is enough on a PC . On consoles, a subscription may be required to use the voice chat functionality: it depends on the platform used, as Rocket League in 2020 became free to play and this has changed several things.
For example, PlayStation Plus membership is no longer required to play Rocket League online , while access to the free PlayStation Network service is clearly still required .
On Xbox One , however, you must have a Live Gold subscription to be able to play online. As for Nintendo Switch, Psyonix, or the software house behind the title, confirmed through the official website that a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required to play since Rocket League became free to play.
For the rest, for the avoidance of doubt, I tell you right away that, as you can read on the official website of the game , cross platform voice chat is not available . Put simply, if you and your friends play from different platforms, you will have to go through the text chat or use third-party services to talk.
How to activate voice chat on Rocket League PC
After having illustrated the general situation, I would say that it is time to explain how to activate the voice chat on Rocket League in Italian (or even other languages) with all the necessary information.
As for the PC version of the game, it’s all very simple. In fact, you just need to connect headphones and microphone to the computer , start the game and press the SETTINGS button , present at the bottom left of the main screen.
At this point, reach the AUDIO tab and try to uncheck the DISABLE MICROPHONE WITH STATUS NOT ACTIVE box . This is the only voice chat option in the PC version of the game, so if you can’t use the microphone the problem probably lies here.
Otherwise , you may be interested in setting the AUDIO OUTPUT option to Headphones and if you have any problems, try changing the DYNAMIC INTERVAL setting . Also keep in mind that there may be some divergences regarding the options available, depending on whether the game was downloaded from the Epic Games Store or from Steam . In any case, you shouldn’t have any particular problems reaching your goal by following the directions in this guide.
If, on the other hand, you want to rely on external platforms , I remind you that there are services such as Discord , which allow you to go beyond the in-game chat and communicate with your friends in a “free” way from individual games.
In that case, you don’t need to be in the same game or playing at the same title. If you want some advice, if you only intend to talk to people you know , it is better to use services like Discord, as they are more comfortable and complete than the in-game functionality.
If you are having difficulty using voice chat in the game and / or on Discora, there may be some problems configuring the microphone – to try to cope with this, check out my tutorial on how to activate the microphone of the headphones .
How to activate voice chat on Rocket League PS4
How do you say? Do you usually play Rocket League from PlayStation 4 ? No problem, I’ll explain immediately how it works on the Sony console too!
Once the game has started, first go to SETTINGS and then access the GAME tab . Then press on the VOICE CHAT menu and choose from the items Only the team or Allow all . By doing so, you will enable the in-game voice chat, which can be used to communicate with your team or with other users (even strangers).
After activating the feature, I suggest you go to the AUDIO tab at the top right and set the volume for the voice chat. If you want, however, also take a look at the possibilities offered by the text chat , just move to the CHAT tab and change the options if necessary.
From the COMMANDS tab, on the other hand, you can optionally activate the PUSH TO TALK , which allows you to speak only when you press the appropriate button. You can set the latter to your liking by pressing the VIEW / MODIFY ASSOCIATED KEYS button .
If, on the other hand, you want to use the voice chat features offered by the console directly , then the situation becomes a little different. As for the Sony console, I suggest you consult my tutorial on how to activate the microphone on PS4 , in which I also explained how to use the Party function.
As for the Xbox world , you can refer to my tutorial on how to use the Xbox Live party (the guide is focused on Fortnite, but being a generic feature, the procedure is the same for all games).
For the rest, since you are a fan of the Psyonix title, I would recommend that you take a look at the page of my site dedicated to Rocket League . In fact, in the latter you can find other tutorials that may interest you.
