Error 651 when connecting to the Internet: how to fix it?
What is error 651 when connecting to the internet?
You may see this error message for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are:
- the cable and equipment are damaged;
- RASPPPoE client is faulty;
- there is an extraneous network connected via a router;
- antivirus and built-in Windows tools block the connection;
- incorrect router settings.
Having dealt with the reasons why this error can occur, let’s move on to solving this problem.
Check the cable
- When a window with error 651 appears, your first action is to check the network cable. All its parts must fit snugly to the computer. Try to log on to the network again when you are satisfied that the cable is working properly.
- If such “first aid” does not give results, completely restart the router, and then the computer itself. Before switching on, you must wait at least 10 seconds until the next start-up of the device.
RASPPPoE client crash
The easiest way out of the situation when the connection is broken is to create a new one. What you need to do for this:
- Call the “Run” menu by pressing Win + R on the keyboard.
- In the line that appears, enter the command rasphone.exe.
- Start the modem.
- The Setup Wizard will tell you what to do next.
Extraneous network
If you connected two parallel communication sessions to one router, then Windows will recognize this as an internal conflict. Do not unplug one of the cables from the network – this way you will not achieve anything. The “Task Manager” will also fail. The only thing you need to do in this case:
- go to “Network and Sharing Management”;
- disconnect the adapter.
Antivirus or firewall
There are times when the antivirus does not allow access to the Internet. Then turn off the system defender for a while. According to statistics, it is the firewall that most often needs to be changed. A firewall (or Firewall) is needed to protect against malware: viruses, hacks, and other attacks on the system. Do not disable this tool as it can be dangerous. If the firewall is preventing the program you want from working, it is better to add it to the list of exceptions. You can do this by following the instructions:
- Open “Control Panel”.
- Go to “System and Security”.
- Find the line “Windows Firewall”.
- Open the Allow Windows Firewall to interact with an application list.
- Click on the buttons “Change settings” and then “Allow other applications.”
- In the search box, click Browse.
- Add the application you want, namely the connection.
With this simple action, we have replenished the list of “allowed programs and components” with what we need.
- Check the boxes for the “Public” and “Private” network.
We have done all the necessary manipulations, save the result, for this click the “OK” button.
The router (router) is incorrectly configured
Our last step to fix the error is to check the router settings. There is a chance that they have gone astray. To do this, enter any Internet browser and enter the numbers from the label on the back of the router in the address bar, most often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, it all depends on the brand of your router. It is advisable to switch the router to Bridge mode. Otherwise, the system will again display the error message 651 – an error while connecting to the Internet. Next, you need to compare the TCP / IP settings with the initial settings of the provider – they must match. We hope our material has helped to solve the problem with accessing the Internet.
