If you are looking for car games to download to your computer, you can try to find the title of your interest on Steam , a digital distribution platform that offers a wide choice of video games of all genres, both free and paid . Alternatively, you can rely on your computer’s digital store: the Microsoft Store , if you have a PC with Windows 10 installed, or the Mac App Store , if you use a Mac.

Car games on Steam

Before downloading the Steam client , which is necessary for downloading and launching many of the main car games for computers (Windows and macOS), I recommend that you connect to the official website of the software to view the catalog of available games.

To find a title you like, pause with the mouse pointer on the Games item in the main menu and choose the Racing option , to view only the car games. In the newly opened page, choose one of the available categories from Popular News , Best Selling and Popular and click on the game of your interest to view its description, minimum installation requirements and reviews.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a free game, pause with the mouse pointer on the Games item and choose the Free-to-play option from the menu that appears, then locate the Filter by categories section and choose the Racing item to view the complete list of free car games.

How do you say? Your search was unsuccessful and would you like my help to learn about the best car games on Steam? If so, here are a few you can consider.

• TrackMania Nations Forever: is among the most popular free games on Steam. It is possible to play in both single player and multiplayer mode, choosing one of the 65 available tracks and one of the numerous cars to race with. It is only available for Windows.
• Rocket League: is a paid game (€ 19.99) in which football meets the world of car racing. The goal is to choose one of the many cars (called Battle-Cars), take the field and try to send as many balls into the opponent’s goal. To learn more, you can take a look at my guide on how to download Rocket League .
• Motorsport Manager: is a management game in which you play the role of a manager of a racing team. The aim is to put drivers under contract, build the cars and take care of every management aspect in order to try to win the championship. It costs 34.99 euros.

After identifying a game of your interest, click on the Install Steam button at the top and, in the new open page, press the Install Steam item to start the download of the Steam client on your computer. Once the download is complete, if you have a Windows PC , double-click on the SteamSetup.exe file , press the Next button and put the check mark next to the option I accept the license agreement .

Then click on the Next button , select the language of your interest and press the Next and Install buttons to start the installation, then wait for it to complete and click on the Finish button to close the window and start downloading the necessary update files to the operation of Steam.

If, on the other hand, you have a Mac , open the dmg package downloaded just now, press the Agree button , move Steam to the Applications folder of macOS and open it, then right-click on the software icon, choose the Open option from the menu that appears and click on the Open button  to circumvent the limitations imposed by Apple on applications from non-certified developers (this is necessary only at the first start). For the detailed procedure, I leave you to my guide on how to download Steam .

Now, start Steam and enter your account login details in the Account Name and Password fields , then click the Login button . If, on the other hand, you do not have an account yet, choose the Create a new account option , fill in the registration form with your details and follow the instructions shown on the screen to complete the registration.

To download the game of your interest, then select the Store item in the Steam main menu and write its name in the Search the store field , at the top right, otherwise select the Games option and choose the Racing category .

Once you have located the game you want to download, click the Start Game button if it is a free game, or the Add to Cart button if it is a paid game. In the latter case, then press the Purchase button for me , select the payment method you prefer between PayPal , credit card ( Visa , MasterCard , American Express and JBC ), Skrill and Paysafecard and enter the data in the appropriate fields, then click on the Continue button to view the order summary and confirm the purchase.

Now, access the Library section , press on the name of the game visible in the sidebar on the left, click on the Install option and follow the instructions shown on the screen to start the download and, subsequently, start playing. To learn more, you can read my guide on how Steam works .

Car games on the Microsoft Store

If you have a computer with Windows 10 installed , to download car games you can also rely on the Microsoft Store , Microsoft’s digital store, on which you can find applications and video games of all kinds.

To download a car game from the Microsoft Store, start the latter by clicking on the shopping bag icon visible in the application bar and select the Games item in the top menu

In the new screen that appears, locate the Category section and click on the Run and fly option , then press the More Filters button to specify additional filters to use for your search, such as the number of players , features and price (you can in fact choose whether to view free or paid games ).

Once you have identified the game you are interested in, click on its title and press the Get and Install buttons to start the download. If, on the other hand, it is a paid game, click on the Buy button and follow the instructions shown on the screen to complete the payment and download the game.

If you still haven’t been able to find a title to download to your computer from the Microsoft Store, here is a list of the most popular games in Microsoft’s digital storefront for you to consider.

• Asphalt: is one of the most popular zero-cost racing games and in which you can get behind the wheel of the most exclusive custom-built cars of the most prestigious brands, such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and W Motors.
• GT Racing: is another good free racing game, considered one of the best in the genre. It allows you to play in both single player and multiplayer mode, with the possibility of competing with your friends trying to achieve the best time on one of the 13 available tracks or to form a team and play together with other drivers to achieve common goals.
• Forza Motorsport: is one of the most popular paid games on the Microsoft Store, ideal for those who want to take to the track aboard one of the more than 700 racing cars available. It allows you to choose from over 200 circuits with constantly changing climatic conditions. Among its strengths there is certainly a 60 FPS graphics at native 4K resolution in HDR. It costs from € 44.99.

Car games on the Mac App Store

Do you use a Mac ? In this case, in addition to Steam , you can also download car games from the Mac App Store , the official application store for Mac.

To proceed, start the Mac App Store by clicking on its icon (the white “A” on a blue background ) in the Dock bar and, in the new window that has opened, select the Categories option in the left sidebar.

Now, click on the Games item and click on the Full List option  to view the list of paid titles and free games. Unfortunately it is not possible to filter the games by category (eg Racing , Simulation , Puzzle etc.) and, therefore, to find the title of your interest you will have to scroll through the list with all the video games shown on the screen.

Alternatively, if you already have clear ideas about the game you intend to download, you can write its title in the Search field located at the top left. Then, in the search results, click on the game of your interest to view its details and read its reviews. Then press the Get and Install buttons to start the download, otherwise click the [price] and Buy the app buttons to complete the purchase and start the download.

Once the download is complete, all you have to do to start playing is to press the Open button or open the Applications folder of macOS and double-click on the game you just downloaded.

• MiniDrivers: is among the most downloaded free racing games from MAS. It allows you to play in three different modes: Tournament to prove you are the best driver; Season to take part in the championship and attempt to become the world champion and Online Tournament that allows you to play online and take part in weekly challenges against players from all over the world.
• Top Speed: Drag & Fast Racing: is another free game that is highly appreciated on the Mac App Store thanks to its graphics with attention to the smallest details. The goal is to choose from over 60 racing cars and get behind the wheel to become the boss of the road.
• DiRT Rally: is the most downloaded paid game on the Mac App Store. As the name suggests, it is a rally game that allows you to compete on the most dangerous tracks in the world by choosing from 45 car models and 70 different courses. It costs 34.99 euros.

Online car games

If you are wondering if there are any online car games , the answer is yes. Among the first solutions you can consider, GamesGames should definitely be mentioned . If you’ve never heard of it, this is a website entirely dedicated to free online games .

To play it, however, it is necessary to have a browser with support for Adobe’s Flash Player , such as Google Chrome which has integrated it “as standard”, and to activate the aforementioned plugin .

All you have to do to play a car game online is connect to the official GamesGames website , pause with the mouse pointer on the Sports item in the top menu and choose the Car Games category . In the new page opened, choose the title you prefer among the over 400 games available and click on the relevant Play button to access the page of the chosen game and start playing.

Alternatively, you can consider My Racing Career , an online management game in which you play the role of a racing car driver. After creating your free account and customizing your driver, the goal is to climb the rankings and, starting from the minor leagues, get as many victories as possible to get to compete in Formula 1.

Car games for PS4

Do you have a PS4 and would like to know the best car games to download on your console? If so, all you need to do is make sure you’ve connected your PS4 to the internet , connect to the  PlayStation Store and locate the game you’re interested in.

To proceed, turn on your PS4 , press the shopping bag icon  to access the PlayStation Store and write the title of the game you want to download in the Search field at the top. If, on the other hand, you want to view the available car games, select the Genres item visible in the sidebar on the left and, in the new screen displayed, choose the Racing option . If it helps, I’ve listed a number of car games that, in my opinion, are the best in the genre.

• Gran Turismo Sport: it is impossible not to know Gran Turismo, the famous sports car racing video game. In this chapter, over 170 cars are available, all the historical circuits and a more accurate graphics than ever. It costs 39.99 euros.
• ONRUSH: is a paid racing game (69.99 euros) in which powerful racing cars defy the laws of gravity. Among its strengths there is certainly the online game mode. In that regard, my guide on how to play online on PS4 may be useful to you.
• Assetto Corsa: is one of the best known and most awarded driving simulators in the world. Choose from 178 highly detailed vehicles, 16 circuits and 33 different track configurations, all recreated through laser scanning. It is paid and costs 39.99 euros.

Car games for Android and iOS

If you prefer to play car games from smartphones and tablets , you can easily find the ones of your interest in the store of your device. In fact, both on the Play Store and on the App Store there are numerous applications, both free and paid, that you can consider to play at any time and wherever you are.

Before explaining in detail how to download a game from the store of your device, let me point out what, in my humble opinion, are some of the best titles you can consider.

• Need for Speed: NL racing( Android / iOS ): is a free-to-play racing video game from the famous Need for Speed ​​ The goal of the game is to choose one of the many vehicles available, customize its style and take part in underground racing to increase your reputation.
• Rush Rally( Android / iOS ): costs € 1.99 and is one of the most popular games of this genre. It allows you to play in both single player and multiplayer mode, with the possibility of participating in single races and real championships by competing on over 70 different circuits.
• F1 Mobile Racing( Android / iOS ): among the racing games to be taken into consideration, one dedicated to Formula 1 could not be missing. F1 Mobile Racing is a free video game (with the possibility of making in-app purchases) that allows you to drive a of the 10 official F1 single-seaters and compete in single races and special events, both online and offline.

To find other car games to download, if you have an Android device , start the Play Store by tapping on its icon (the colored ▶ ︎ symbol) and select the Games tab , then press on the Categories item and choose the Racing option . Locate and then, the game you prefer from those visible in sections Recommended for you , interesting games , Car Games , Driving etc. and tap on the app of your interest to access its described tab.

To download the selected game, press the Get button to start the free download, otherwise tap on the [price] and Accept options if the app is paid. Once the download and installation of the chosen game is complete, press the Open button   or access the drawer of your device and select its icon.

If, on the other hand, you are using an iPhone or an iPad , start the App Store by tapping on its icon (the white “A” on a blue background ), press on the Games item in the bottom menu, locate the Top categories section and tap on the relevant item See all .

In the new screen that appears, choose the category racing to display the car’s available and choose the one you are interested in sailing the sections Games we worship , Launched in crazy drifting , realistic racing , aerobatics champions , Top Paid and Top Free .

After identifying the game you are interested in, press the relevant Get button if the app is free, otherwise tap the [price]  and  Buy buttons , confirm your intention via Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password and press again on the Buy button   to start the download. You will then find the game on the home screen.
