Although not a great expert on the subject, every now and then you enjoy playing billiards and would you like to discover some themed video games to try your hand at on your PC?

Let me tell you: you’ve come to the right place at the right time. With today’s article, I want to point out some titles dedicated to the game of billiards that can be found for free on the Net.

There is something for everyone: 8 ball, 9 ball, with 2D, 3D graphics, single player, multiplayer, online, offline and the list could go on and on. You are spoiled for choice, believe me!

If you want to try your hand at some nice billiard games without wasting time with downloads and various installations, don’t think twice and connect to the 85Play online games site which hosts many video games dedicated to billiards (both 2D and 3D), all free.

All you need to play is a browser with Flash Player support. In fact, just connect to the page of the site dedicated to billiards, click on the image of the game you want to try and the latter is automatically started in the browser. More comfortable than that?

And if you are in the mood for something a little more challenging, take a “spin” on Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool . It is an online multiplayer game dedicated to billiards that allows you to challenge other people from all over the world in single matches or even tournaments. To play, go to the Miniclip website and click the Play as guest button . A quick match will start against an opponent chosen randomly by the system.

Alternatively, click on Play and register for the game by filling out the form that is proposed to you (or by clicking on the Facebook button ). This way, you can search for friends to challenge online (by clicking on the Play friends button ) and register for tournaments (using the Tournaments button  ). The game is based on virtual coins called Win Pool Coins that can be won or lost during the “match” or can be bought with real money. The game is also available on Android and iOS .

If you’d rather opt for some classic billiards games to download to your PC and play offline, check out FooBillard . It is a free and open source 3D graphics pool game. It is not very intuitive at first glance but a few games are enough to fully understand all the mechanics.

To download FooBillard on your computer, connect to the Sourceforge page that hosts it and click on the foobillard – 3.0-win32–2 -bin.zip link . When the download is complete, open the zip package you just downloaded and extract the contents to a folder of your choice.

At this point, start the foobillard.exe program and press the Esc key on your PC keyboard to access the game menu. From here, by selecting the Options and Game items , you can choose what type of game to play between 8 ball , 9 ball , Carambola and Snooker . To have the second player controlled by the CPU (by default it is set to control by a person) instead go to Restart Game> Single match> Player 2 and set the P2 Type option to AI . To discover all the controls in the game, press the F1 key .

Less spectacular from a graphic point of view but still fun is Pool! for Mac that allows you to play in single player mode against the CPU or against a real opponent (locally) at 8 ball pool. You can download it for free from the Mac App Store.

Finally, here are some billiards games for Android and iOS that are worth downloading to your smartphone to have fun even when you are not at home in front of your PC.

• Real Pool 3D– one of the most spectacular billiard games in the mobile world. It boasts beautiful 3D graphics and allows you to choose from 10 different characters. It includes various difficulty levels and various types of billiards, such as 8 Ball and 9 Ball. You can also play in 2. It is available for Android at 1.46 euros and for iOS at 1.79 euros.
• Pool 3D– another 3D 8 ball pool game, this time free, which allows you to play both single player and multiplayer (online or local). Includes 3 difficulty levels to choose from. It is available for  Android  and  iOS .
• Pool Live Tour– a very popular social pool title on Facebook. It can be played exclusively online and is based on a system of virtual coins to be earned during “matches” with other users. It is compatible with  Android  and  iOS .
