Auslogics Disk Defrag – a program for defragmentation
Auslogics Disk Defrag is a free hard drive defragmenter and disk space optimizer. As a result, the performance of the Windows operating system is increased, the defragmenter improves and optimizes the system.
A large number of fragmented files on the disk negatively affects the speed of the system, because due to fragmentation, the time to access data increases. A specialized program – a defragmenter moves fragments of files to one place, optimizes the file system.
Auslogics Disk Defrag performs the necessary actions: moves system files to a faster part of the disk, merges unallocated disk space into a single space to prevent fragmentation, etc.
The Auslogics Disk Defrag program is released in two versions: the free Auslogics Disk Defrag Free and the paid Auslogics Disk Defrag Pro, which has more powerful functionality. In this article, we will consider using the free version of the program on a computer – Auslogics Disk Defrag Free.
Key features of Auslogics Disk Defrag:
- fast defragmentation;
- disk space optimization;
- support for optimizing SSD drives;
- defragmentation of folders and files;
- using VSS compatibility mode;
- automatic and offline defragmentation;
- scheduled defragmentation;
- easy-to-manage program;
- detailed reports on program performance.
The Auslogics Disk Defrag program can be downloaded from the official website of the Australian company Auslogics, a well-known software manufacturer that produces programs: Auslogics BoostSpeed, Auslogics Registry Cleaner, Auslogics Duplicate File Finder, Auslogics Browser Care.
Please note that during the installation of Auslogics Disk Defrag on a computer, Auslogics BoostSpeed (paid) and other third-party software will be offered for installation. Choose a custom installation, or use the Unchecky program, which unchecks to block the installation of unnecessary programs.
The Auslogics Disk Defrag program works in Russian on the Windows operating system.
Auslogics Disk Defrag Interface
After starting the program, the main window of Auslogics Disk Defrag will open. At the top of the window there is a menu bar for managing the program. The following is a list of drives on this computer.
The main part of the window is occupied by a graphical representation of the structure of the selected disk. The status of the disk will be shown here: the location of unfragmented and fragmented files, as well as their movement during the defragmentation of the hard disk.
The lower part of the main program window displays information about the program’s operation and disk status.
At the very bottom of the left column are buttons for calling some of the functions of the Auslogics Disk Defrag program: list of disks, scheduled defragmentation, offline defragmentation, SSD optimization.
Auslogics Disk Defrag Settings
Enter the “Settings” menu, and then click on the “Program settings …” item.
In the settings of the Auslogics Disk Defrag program, you can change the application settings: enable support for SSD disks (provided that such disks are present on the computer), configure operation algorithms, enable or disable integration into the Explorer context menu, configure the cluster map view, configure disk cleanup functions , add files and folders to exclusions, select a language for working in the program.
Auslogics Disk Defrag has a Scheduler to run automatic or offline defragmentation.
To do this, in the “Settings” menu, select the “Scheduler” item, and in the window that opens, configure the necessary settings for the program. To access specific parameters, use the buttons located in the lower left corner of the program window.
After clicking on the “Action” menu, the necessary actions in the program are performed from the context menu:
- Analyze selected — scan selected local drives.
- Defragment Selected — defragment the selected drive.
- SSD optimization (special algorithm) – SSD disk optimization.
- Defragmentation and optimization (slow, once a week is recommended) – deep defragmentation mode.
- Fast defragmentation (no analysis) – fast defragmentation mode.
- Advanced – mode for performing additional operations: defragment a file or folder, check the selection, check and fix the selection.
- Exit – exit the program.
Defragmentation in Auslogics Disk Defrag
In the main window of the Auslogics Disk Defrag program, select local drives to defragment. By default, all drives connected to the computer are selected.
After clicking on the triangle on the “Defragmentation” button, a context menu will open, which offers a choice of options for defragmentation:
- Analysis – checking the state of local disks for fragmented data.
- Defragmentation is a normal defragmentation.
- SSD optimization (special algorithm) – required for computers with an SSD drive.
- Defragmentation and Optimization (slow, recommended once a week) – the most thorough defragmentation and optimization of the computer.
- Fast defragmentation (without analysis) – fast defragmentation using special algorithms.
After selecting the “Analysis” item, you can run an analysis of all disks or a specific local disk in order to find out the level of file fragmentation on disks.
After the scan is completed, the percentage of found fragmented files will be displayed opposite each local drive. The selected local disk is visually displayed in the program window.
To start defragmentation, select the local drive on which you want to optimize, and then start the defragmentation process (fast, normal, slow).
The defragmentation process will take some time. If there are a lot of fragmented files on the computer, then this process will drag on for a long period of time. Defragmentation can be paused or stopped.
After the transfer of fragmented files on the disk is completed, a message will appear in the program window stating that the defragmentation of the hard disk has been completed.
Defragmenting files and folders in Auslogics Disk Defrag
To defragment individual files or folders, enter the “Action” menu. Next, select the “Advanced” context menu item, and then select the desired option: “Defragment file …” or “Defragment folder …”.
In the window that opens, select and add to the program the necessary data for defragmentation in the Auslogics Disk Defrag program.
Article Conclusions
The free Auslogics Disk Defrag program is used to defragment computer disks. As a result of the program, the state of hard drives is optimized, and the speed of the computer is increased.
