How to disable “Updates for Office are ready to be installed” notifications
Notifications about updates are not uncommon in MS Office 2016. In the text of the notification we see: “Updates for Office are ready to be installed”. Are you really getting in the way of these pop-ups? Disable them. Disable notifications for Office 2016 and 2013 step by step.
Disable updates
Office 2016 and 2013 have an option to turn off automatic updates. Please note that you will also miss important program updates.
- Open Word or Excel.
- Choose File”.
- Then “Account”.
- Click Update Options.
- Select the “Disable Updates” menu item.
- “Yes” to confirm.
- Check for updates, click “Update Now”.
Edit the registry
- Disable notifications in Office 2016 by editing the registry. To do this, press the Win + R keyboard shortcut.
- Enter “regedit” in Run => “OK”.
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE software microsoft office 16.0 common officeupdate.
- Click “officeupdate” on the left side of the window, then right-click the empty space to the right of the window and choose New> DWORD.
- Enter “hideupdatenotifications” as the DWORD name.
- Then double-click “hideupdatenotifications” to open the Edit DWORD.
- We write “1” in the “Value” text box.
- Click OK to close the window.
Removing notifications in Office 2013
Get the new Office 2013 update alert. The full notice reads “Get the new Office – It’s one of the perks of having Office 365.” It allows you to upgrade the 2013 version to 2016. Choosing “Later” you do not disable the notification. The Microsoft Easy fix utility will handle this. Download the Easy fix program. Then open and run and it will automatically modify the registry and remove unnecessary update notifications.
