How to update Google Maps

The procedure for updating Google Maps is quick and easy. All you have to do to download a new version of the app for Android and iOS / iPadOS is to access your device’s store, locate the section relating to available updates and start downloading the latest version of Google Maps. How to do? I’ll explain it to you right away!

How to update Google Maps on Android

To update Google Maps on Android, take your device, start the Play Store by pressing its icon (the colored ▶ ︎ symbol), tap the ☰ button, at the top left, and choose the My apps and games option from the menu that opens.

In the new screen that appears, make sure you have selected the Updates tab and check that a new version of Google Maps is available. If so, tap the relevant Update button, in order to start the download of the update, and wait for the progress bar to reach 100%. You will have installed the new version of Google Maps.

Alternatively, you can also automatically update the apps on your device (including Google Maps), whenever a new version is available. To activate automatic updates, start the Play Store, tap the ☰ button and choose the Settings option from the menu that is proposed to you.

Subsequently, press on the item Automatic app update and, in the new screen displayed, put the checkmark next to the option of your interest between On any network, to update the apps automatically even when you have an active data connection, and Only via Wi-Fi, to download updates only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network (recommended, if you don’t want to risk consuming all the data traffic included in your offer). Then press the Finish button to save the changes, and that’s it.

How to update Google Maps on iPhone

If your intention is to update Google Maps on iPhone, you will be happy to know that you can do it simply by accessing the App Store and pressing the button to download and install the new version of the app in question.

To proceed, take your iPhone, start the App Store by tapping on its icon (the white “A” on a light blue background ) and press on your photo, at the top right. In the new screen that appears, locate the Updates available section and tap the Update button for Google Maps. Wait, then, for the progress bar to reach 100% and that’s it.

It will be useful to know that even on iPhone you can set the automatic updating of applications, including that of Google Maps. If you are interested in this option, access the home screen of your device, tap on the gear wheel icon, to access the iOS Settings, and press on the iTunes Store and App Store option.

Now, in the Automatic Downloads section, move the lever next to the App Updates item from OFF to ON, to enable automatic updates when your iPhone is connected to the Wi-Fi network. To activate automatic updates even when the data connection is active (not recommended, as you risk consuming all the data traffic included in your offer), locate the item Automatic downloads visible in the Cellular data box and move the relative lever from OFF to ON. For the detailed procedure, I leave you to my guide on how to update apps on iPhone. The same indications also apply to iPads.

How to update Google Maps on PC

If you are wondering if it is possible to update Google Maps on PC, I am sorry to tell you that the answer is no. However, in case of map errors or wrong directions, you can make a report to request the addition of roads, report errors and/or suggest corrections.

To proceed, then connected to the main page of Google Maps and make sure you are logged in with your Google account. Otherwise, click on the Login button, at the top right, select the account of your interest in the Choose an account screen, enter the password in the appropriate field and press the Next button, to log in to Google Maps with the your account.

Once this is done, click on the ☰ button, at the top left, choose the Send feedback item from the menu that opens and, in the new page displayed, choose the option of your interest: Missing building to report the lack of a building; Missing place to request the addition of a place, by entering its name, category and address; Missing street to add a street that should be on Google Maps and request it to be added and Incorrect information to report errors related to places, activities and streets already on Google Maps.

Once you have made your choice and entered the required data in the appropriate fields, click on the Send button to send your report and request the update of Google Maps.

How to update Google Maps with speed cameras

Recently, Google released a new version of Google Maps that introduces interesting new features, such as the ability to report accidents, slowdowns, broken down vehicles on the road and the presence of debris and other dangerous objects on the road.

In addition, Google Maps automatically reports the presence of fixed speed cameras and allows you to report any mobile locations for checking the speed on the route set for navigation.

That said, if by starting the app in question and setting a navigation path, you can’t find these new features, you need to update Google Maps with speed cameras. Therefore, follow the instructions I gave you in the previous lines of this guide and proceed to update Google Maps on your smartphone/tablet.

How to update location on Google Maps

If your intention is to update the position of the places you have previously added on Google Maps, start the app of the famous map service, tap the ☰ button, at the top left, and choose the Your places option from the menu that opens.

In the new screen that appears, press the three dots icon for the place whose location you want to update and choose the Edit [place name] option. Then press on the option Choose on the map, select the new position of the place in question and tap the OK button to save the changes.

Likewise, you can update the location of your places from your computer as well. To do this, connected to the main page of Google Maps, click on the ☰ button, select the item Your places and press the X button relating to the place you want to update, to delete the data currently set.

Then enter the data of your interest in the appropriate fields and click on the Save button to update the position of the place in question.

How to update photos on Google Maps

If you have added your business to Google Maps and would like to update its photos, start the Google My Business app for Android or iOS / iPadOS, log in with your Google account and select the business of your interest (in case of multiple activities) via the drop-down menu located at the top.

Now, click on the Profile option visible in the bottom menu, select the Photo tab and click on the camera icon to add a new photo, choosing it from the photo gallery of your device or taking it on the spot.

If, on the other hand, you want to update the logo or the cover image of your business, press the pencil icon relating to the option of your interest, choose the item Change the logo photo / Change the cover photo, select the photo to use and press the Save button, to save the changes and update the photo of your business.

How do you say? Do you prefer to proceed from a computer? In this case, connected to the official Google Business site, click on the Login button, select the Google account associated with your business, enter the password in the appropriate field and press the Next button to login.

Now, if you have more than one activity, select the Manage locations option and click on the activity of your interest, then choose the Photo option from the sidebar on the left and, in the new open page, click on the + button, to upload a new photo of your business.

If, on the other hand, you want to change the logo or image used as the cover of your business card, click on the pencil icon relating to the item of your interest between Logo and Cover, select the new image to upload and click on the Set logo button / Set cover. Simple, right?
