How to clone Windows 10 to SSD
This article will show you how to clone Windows with all files and settings to an SSD.
Preparing for data cloning
Before cloning data from a hard drive to an SSD, there are a few preparatory steps to take. This includes dividing the SSD into partitions to add an additional volume to which data will be migrated.
Also, try to keep all your data in one partition to reduce the chances of incomplete disk cloning. It is important to close all programs before starting cloning.
It is also recommended that you perform a full disk cleanup to get rid of unnecessary files from your hard drive. This will reduce the size of the transferred data. Moreover, it will prevent unnecessary files from being copied.
Also, you can uninstall unnecessary programs.
How to clone Windows 10 to SSD
There are many programs that allow you to transfer files from OS to SSD. Today I will show you how to do this using CloneGo. It is a cloning software available in both free and commercial versions. The free version has limited functionality but is available to everyone and can clone OS and data with ease.
- Download and install CloneGo in Windows 10 and then open the program
- Click the Copy button, then select the source partition (your HDD) and the target partition (your SSD).
- Select the Set the target partition as the boot disk check box. This will boot from the SSD after cloning is complete.
- After selecting the appropriate options, click the Start button. Make sure the target partition (SSD) does not have the required data as it will be formatted during the process.
- First, it will format the SSD to the desired format, then copy (clone) all data from the HDD to the SSD.
- After successfully cloning data to the SSD, shut down your computer. If you are connecting an SSD via USB, open your computer, remove the existing hard drive, and replace the SSD card in its place. Make sure your computer is turned off and unplugged.

With the SSD installed, turn on and boot your computer. On the BIOS screen, make sure SSD is selected as the first boot option. If everything is in order, you should be able to boot Windows 10 and all your files and data will remain intact. You will find that it is significantly faster.
As you can see, cloning Windows 10 to SSD is very easy. The same steps can be used to clone from SSD to SSD. The best part is that now your Windows will be fast again.
